Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay may be on the move as the team faces salary cap issues. With free agency looming, could a reunion with the Detroit Lions be his next step? Find out the latest on his NFL future.
Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay has said he wants to play one more NFL season. While he hopes to stay with the Eagles, he is also open to returning to the Detroit Lions, the team where he started his career.
In a recent NFL podcast, Slay talked about his future. He said, “I’ve got one more year left on my contract, but you know how that works. Hopefully, I re-sign back. If I don’t, we’ll see what I’m doing because I do want to play one more year, for sure.”
Slay’s contract with the Eagles runs through 2025, but the team has salary cap issues. With young players like Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell stepping up, the Eagles may decide to save money by letting Slay go.
When asked about returning to Detroit, Slay sounded excited. He called it his “second home” and said, “I love Detroit. I’ve got nothing but love for that place. The two spots I would always love to be at are either Philly or Detroit.”
Slay played for the Lions from 2013 to 2019. He made three Pro Bowls and led the NFL in interceptions in 2017. His experience could help the Lions as they try to improve their defense.
For the Eagles, keeping Slay would bring leadership and experience to their young defense. But with salary cap limits, they might decide to move on.
As the NFL offseason continues, both the Eagles and Lions will have to decide if a Slay reunion is the right move. No matter where he plays next, fans will be watching closely to see what happens.
