Thunder’s Historic Blowout Over Grizzlies Sets NBA Playoff Record

    SportsgrapherBy SportsgrapherApril 22, 2025No Comments1 Views

In a commanding performance, the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 131–80 in Game 1 of their Western Conference playoff series. This 51-point margin stands as the largest victory in a Game 1 in NBA playoff history and ranks as the fifth-largest overall postseason win.

Despite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scoring a modest 15 points, the Thunder showcased their depth with Aaron Wiggins leading off the bench with 21 points and Jalen Williams contributing 20. Chet Holmgren added a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The team’s defensive prowess was evident as they forced 24 turnovers, converting them into 27 fast-break points.

The Grizzlies, who secured their playoff spot through the play-in tournament, struggled offensively. Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. combined for just 8-of-30 shooting, and the team managed only 34.4% from the field and 17.6% from beyond the arc. Interim coach Tuomas Iisalo acknowledged the team’s shortcomings and emphasized the need for adjustments ahead of Game 2.

Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday, where the Grizzlies will aim to rebound and even the series.
