Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 platform, bringing significant advancements in performance, artificial intelligence (AI), gaming, connectivity, and audio for mid-range smartphones. Built on TSMC’s 4nm process, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is the first in its series to utilize ARMv9-based CPU cores. The chipset features a prime Cortex-A720 core clocked at 2.3GHz, three additional Cortex-A720 cores at 2.2GHz, and four Cortex-A520 cores at 1.8GHz. This configuration delivers an 11% improvement in CPU performance compared to its predecessor. The new Adreno GPU offers a 29% boost in graphics performance, enhancing both efficiency and visual experience.
A notable addition is support for generative AI, enabling on-device processing for tasks such as text summarization and email drafting. The chipset introduces native 4-bit integer (INT4) support, enhancing AI efficiency and performance, allowing for more complex models to operate within the device’s hardware constraints. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 enhances gaming experiences with support for Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, which upscales in-game visuals to near 4K quality. Additionally, the Adreno GPU incorporates the Frame Motion Engine, generating additional frames to provide smoother gameplay without significantly increasing power consumption.
The chipset supports expanded 5G network compatibility and includes Wi-Fi 6E support, ensuring faster and more reliable wireless connections. Navigation accuracy is improved with Triple Frequency Location support (L1/L5/L2). For audio, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 supports the aptX Lossless Bluetooth codec and Bluetooth LE Audio, delivering higher-quality wireless sound. Smartphone manufacturers such as OPPO, Realme, and Honor are expected to integrate the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 into their devices in the coming months, bringing these advanced features to a broader range of consumers.
With these comprehensive upgrades, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 platform is set to redefine the capabilities of mid-range smartphones, offering users enhanced performance, AI functionalities, and superior gaming experiences.
